FPL 20/21: GW 13 & 14

Gameweek 13 and 14 have continued my yo -yo start to the season. I had hoped that by the middle of the season I would have settled into a decent overall ranking, starting my push towards my pre season target of top 30k finish. However that has not been the case, but I still feel top 30k is achievable, however I will need multiple big green arrows on my way.

GW 13 Review

GW 13 Points39
GW 13 Rank49.05 lacs
Overall rank after GW 1328.35 lacs
Net Change– 1.49 lacs

GW 13 was a low scoring gameweek with overall average at 42 points. My time could not even touch the average and I managed to score only 39 points. I had another captaincy failure with Bruno managing only 2 points and Mahrez, Konsa, Ryan missing out all together. To add salt to my wounds Son yet again provided returns, which was perhaps one of the reasons for my red arrow in GW 13. Minor returns from Chilwell, Lamptey in defence and from Bamford, DCL and Salah kept my somewhat afloat.

One major realisation post GW 13 was that while I have a few template players (and no one can perhaps own all), it is the differentials that are going to make a difference and my differential picks haven’t worked in favour. Chelsea attacking midfielders in Ziyech / Pulisic have barely provided any big returns, Rashford who was my differential pick before I moved to Bruno was providing mediocre returns, but since I have moved to Bruno, Rashford has outperformed him. Hence it might be the right time to think more on my differential picks and hope a boost in overall rank.

GW 14 Review

GW 14 Points81
GW 14 Rank9.48 lacs
Overall rank after GW 1424.40 lacs
Net Change+ 3.95 lacs

GW 14 has been my second best gameweek this season so far with a GW rank of 9.48 lacs propelling my overall rank by ~4 lacs to 24 lacs, while this is no where near where I need to be. This GW I broke from the rut I was stuck in wherein I would take a step forward to only take 2 more behind. This now presents with an opportunity to build momentum as we head towards festive fixtures, wherein like the actual football league, FPL season can also be defined in a short while.

For GW 14, I got in Sanchez (Brighton’s goal keeper), Stones and Grealish for Ryan, Mitchell and Pulisic. They proved to be great transfers for me with Stones and Grealish scoring 8 and 10 points respectively and Sanchez allowing me to have a playing XI GK at 4.4M in Brighton who seem to have decent clean sheet potential.

The biggest reason for the high scores were Bruno (Captain) and Salah, provding 50 points between the two of them.

On the defensive front Lamptey and Konsa missed again, and unfortunately Chilwell got injured in the early minutes of his match leaving much to be desired in defensive department. In Midfield, Mahrez missed out again, coming on for a 1 point cameo.

GW 14 has straightened by resolve to keep the base of template players in my FPL team and adding a well researched differential (like I did with Stones this week) to the mix and hope for returns. Obviously getting the captain right makes a big big difference.

Heading towards the next set of fixtures with hope and positivity. Best of luck everyone.
