FPL 20:21 | GW28 – GW36 Review & Missing In Action On Blog

This FPL season I started this section in Aenakdotes blog and a twitter account “FPL Aenakdotes” to document my FPL journey and interact with the FPL community. I managed to post 25 blog posts prior to this one in the first 7 months till March and am pretty happy with the fact that I was somewhat consistent. However last couple of months have been extremely busy, at personal front, our dog, Heidi had a minor surgery and office work has kept me pretty occupied as well. But I am back with the resolve to bring closure to this FPL season on my blog and get going with the next season with consistent posts.

Over the course of last 9 FPL gameweeks, my rank has gone up from 9.06 lacs to 3.6 lacs, which is decent, specially considering the fact that I was languishing at 25 lacs at the end of GW18. However it is still way off my start of season target of finishing in top 30k, I still have a couple of GWs to go this season, will probably try some maverick punts to in these 2 GWs as I don’t have anything to lose.

Here is a glimpse of my team performance over last 9 GWs:

One of the biggest gains during this period came in GW28 when I captained a proper differential in Kelechi Iheanacho against Sheffield United and he retuned with a hattrick and 34 points as captain. This combined with other key captain picks failing to deliver led to a GW rank of 9,943, which is probably my highest GW rank ever, at least as far as I remember. I had tweeted about my captaincy pick prior to the GW:

GW29, I played my Free Hit chip and went for differentials like Trossard and Lacazette for the blank GW and got returns of 14 and 12 points from them respectively, which pushed my rank further to 4.75 lacs. Basically I had halved my rank in 2 GWs. I just needed to do more of that and I would have been on the cusp of top 1 lac in 4 GWs.

GW30 brought a halt to my good run with a poor GW rank of 41 lacs – primarily due to my captaincy pick, Bamford failing to deliver and the other popular captaincy pick, Kane banging 2 goals against Newcastle. GW 31 was an average GW rank of 19 lacs, Salah captaincy worked out ok, returns from Iheanacho and Periera kept my OR around 5.35 lacs.

I triple captained Harry Kane for the DGW32 and although Harry only played a game, he provided a return of 36 points as triple captain. Although I did expect more going in the GW but I will take that. This led to a GW rank of 69k, another good gameweek, pushing my OR to 4.39 lacs.

GW33 I managed to keep the momentum going with trio of Salah (C), Iheanacho and Periera leading me to another green arrow, taking me to OR of 3.76 lacs. GW34 was another big blip in the hope to get to top 1 lakh. United-Livepool game got cancelled and my Kane captaincy pick was a big failure, leading to a well below average week. Thankfully my OR only came down to 4.12 lacs.

GW35 was a Triple gameweek for Manchester United and I went for massive changes taking a -8. Bruno(C), Greenwood, TAA and Salah provided big returns, leading to a total score of 132 and a GW rank of 1.91 lacs. This took my OR to 3.30 lacs, highest so far this season. Btw, I had 39 (THIRTY NINE!) points on my bench this GW, had I made the right choices, this GW could have been absolutely amazing, but it is what it is.

The just concluded BGW36 was a disaster again. I went in with 2 changes, taking a -4 and only fielding 10 players for the GW. The idea was to not take big risks given this was expected to be a low scoring GW. I got in Mahrez and Diop in my team and both of them combined played ZERO minutes this GW. Thanks to Che Adams and captain Salah, I managed to get 43(-4) points, just above average of 38, with that my OR has come down to 3.60 lacs.

Now I go into the last two GWs, with the idea of having fun and making some maverick moves. If some differential picks work out, they can take my closer to my revised target of finishing inside top 1 lakh.

Feels good to be sharing my thoughts through my blog once again. Cheers!
